Who should we blame for misogyny in hip hop?
Who should we blame having misogyny in our hip hop culture? Is it the artists producing the music? Is it the young, who are indifferent? Or is it the people passionately against the idea but still buying the music? There is an ongoing debate of why we still have misogyny in hip hop culture. Although it is intuitive to blame the rappers for including misogyny in their music, some people mention that the consumers are also responsible for conserving misogyny in our hip hop culture. There are two sides to the debate.
people still buying the musicAlthough people agree that misogyny is wrong, people talking about the issue are usually people who do not listen to rap music that contain misogynic lyrics and videos. In other words, listeners to rap music are usually teens to their thirties. People discussing the issue are people in their fourties and fifties. Therefore, people listening to hip hop music continues to consume mysogynic music, enabling artists to continue to produce such music.

artists still making the music Many people blame the artists for initially making music that is offensive to women. They believe that the lyrics from their music greatly influences the younger generation to think that women are inferior than men. Furthermore, they believe that rappers are suggesting misogyny through their music videos that they create for their music. Eminem and Outkast are some artists that was cricized for using misogyny in their music.
